PERSONALITY: Being blind hasn't affected Jack's personality in the slightest, he doesn't remember ever being able to see, so there's no reason for him to feel bitter and angry about it. In fact, Jack is just as loud and boisterous as anybody else in his house. He's always ready for a game of truth or dare, or if they'll play with him, a good soccer match (even if most people don't want to play or have even HEARD of soccer)
He's friendly and happy most of the time and always willing to tell a joke to make someone else happy.
If he's ever involved in a duel, Jack is surprisingly good at them. His enchanted shoes help him, along with his hearing, smell and sense of touch, all of which are increased on account of his blindness. He might not be the best at dueling, but at least he can hold his own when the time comes.
Jack doesn't let things get him down for long, he much prefers to be bright and happy than mopey and angry. He enjoys listening to Quidditch matches, even though he can't see them or participate in them due to his extreme fear of flying and how helpless he is in the air.
He also enjoys candies of all sorts and with his enhanced sense of taste and smell, they're even yummier to him than to most people.

FATHER: Maxwell Orson Lantern, 36, Aurror, Order Supporter, Ravenclaw
SIBLINGS: None
OTHER IMPORTANT FIGURES: His grandfather Orson, who made the famous radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. He adores the man and remembers listening to his bedtime stories whenever he was over.
BIRTHPLACE: New York New York
CURRENT RESIDENCE: London
HISTORY: Jack was born in America and for the first few years of his life, he was raised in the streets of New York. He remembers very little of the place, except for the noise and feeling of a lot of people. His father was always traveling between England and America for his job and to stay with his wife and son, leaving Jack with his mother and her father, Orson.
When Jack was two years old, he had a very unfortunate accident happen to him. He was with his uncle Morry, and the man was mixing a potion. The man made a mistake and without warning, it exploded. Splashing young Jack in the face. Instantly, he was screaming and rushed to a magical hospital in America. The healers repaired the damage to his face, but try as they might, they were unable to restore his eyes, which had been badly damaged.
Totally blind, baby Jack was taken to London, in hopes that the healers there would be able to do something. Unfortunately, they were not. Jack remained bind. His eyes, once a handsome shade of green, were a stark, unseeing white, a little bit unsettling to some people. Jack's father went to his Ministry and quickly made sure that something could be done to help his little boy.
After two years of development, a pair of enchanted shoes was invented for Jack. Putting them on made it possible for the little boy to find his way around the world without the use of a walking cane. His shoes sent a mental image of his surroundings within the normal viewing distance of the average human. Objects and people were only shapes, and if things flew at him, either magical or non-magical, his shoes would alert him and he'd be able to avoid them.
Jack was delighted with his new shoes and soon learned to master them and it was obvious that he would be able to interact with the world without it being obvious that he was blind. He wore sunglasses most of the time to hide his face and whenever he showed signs of magic, his father and mother would praise him to no end.
His grandfather was a big part of his life too, when the man wasn't working, he was in London, reading stories to Jack with his amazing voice and telling him all sorts of wonderful things. Jack soon grew to idolize his grandfather and couldn't imagine life without the man.
As Jack entered Hogwarts, he was sorted into Hufflepuff and at first, he was a little bit afraid that he wouldn't do very well in classes. He proved that his fears were groundless and quickly became good at many spells and even at Potions. He had all his books special ordered to be braille copies, his potions kit was labeled and sorted by braille and he was special permission to use a Quick Quotes Quill for all his writing and homework.
Flying lessons didn't go very well for Jack. In fact, he quickly grew to be terrified of flying. Without his shoes being in contact with the ground, Jack was truly blind and helpless. He felt as if he were floating in a void, unable to tell which way was up or down. He had to be escorted down by the flying instructor, and he stated that he belonged on the ground and was excused from such lessons.
The lake also held no appeal to him. Being unable to touch the ground, Jack was once again helpless and so, when in it, Jack learned to simply refuse to go out where his feet couldn't touch the bottom.
He also became very interested in Quidditch, and adored listening to the games. He could hear the snap and rustle of the team robes, hear the crack of the beaters' bats, the thud of the bludgers slamming into someone and the whooshing of the players as they flew close by. It was all so exciting! He didn't root for any one team in particular however, he just enjoyed attending the games and listening to the results.
Now in his seventh year, Jack has grown to adore his school and most everyone in it and everything it has to offer. Even if some people still like giving him trouble.

RP SAMPLE: If there was one thing Jack needed to do, it was get clothes. However, his assistant Howard was sick and didn't want to be without a bathroom nearby. Jack's dog Charlie was .....well a dog.....and while he was a seeing eye dog, he couldn't help pick clothes out for him. Sighing slightly, Jack decided to set out on his own. The hybrid passed by his sleeping dog, giving him an affectionate pat. He felt a little bit bad since he didn't actually have much use for the animal outside of picking up some things that had fallen and fetching him certain things from the pantry or fridge.
Jack, thanks to his ability to detect vibrations in the ground, didn't really need any help getting around. The blind hybrid had really only gotten a seeing eye dog to shut Howard up, who kept on bugging him about how he couldn't always be there for him but a dog could be. He was only human, so Howard didn't know about Jack's special power. Charlie was however, a very good dog to have. He let the animal lick his cheek and laughed, kissing him on the nose. "See you around boy. You be good okay?" he said and patted him on the head. Jack debated whether or not to bring his walking cane. On one hand, he'd never needed it, on the other when it was proven that he was blind and didn't have it, people asked questions.
Sighing, Jack decided to leave it behind. It was a bother really. He left his apartment and heard the sound of the doggie door flapping in the back. He had a low fence in his backyard with special permission, just enough to keep his dog from wandering off and yet allowing him to go outside as he pleased to do his business. "Bye Charlie!" He called and made his way down the rows of little homes until he made it to his good friend Rufus Sheffield's house.
He got Rufus to escort him on foot to Seattle, since Rufus didn't drive and cars made Jack sick to ride in. Then, Rufus went on his way, promising he would find him later. They'd agreed on a time about four or five hours later to meet. That would give Jack plenty of time to do what he wanted to do and get what he wanted to get.
He walked around the mall, as usual the crowd and all the vibrations of many people's feet was a bit overwhelming at first, but after a moment, Jack was able to get his bearings right and make his way around just fine. His sunglasses kept anyone from discovering that he was blind and that was how he liked it.
He made his way into a clothing store judging from the sound of hangers being shifted and people exclaiming how something either fit, or didn't fit. Smiling, Jack walked along, here was when he began wishing he had Howard with him. Howie would help him find clothes without having to explain anything to store clerks. Here, Jack was helpless. He couldn't tell who anyone was in this store, whether or not they were customers or if they worked for the store.
Jack decided to just wing it. He hung out around people, listening to their conversations for a moment to see if anyone was asking questions about if they could help someone. So far, he hadn't overheard anyone like that. Finally, he was about to just ask someone at random where the nearest clerk was, when he smelled a familiar scent.
Another vampire! He stood off to one side, turning his face this way and that, trying to zero in on the sound of a vampire. No heartbeat for one and the vibrations were different. Heavier, more solid than a human's and yet, much more graceful and elegant, cat-like in a way. Ah-ha! He'd found the direction the vibrations were coming from. He followed them, like a bat chasing after a bug for a tasty meal. Only he wasn't planning on eating his catch, he was planning on getting help.
Pausing near a rack of clothes, Jack listened to the vampire's voice. Female. She must have been on the phone with someone or talking to herself about the deals. He waited a bit before smiling and stepping out from behind the clothes. "Hello." He said cheerfully, "I ....I really hate to bother you ma'am, but I'm in a bit of an annoying situation. See, I can't find any clerks around here to help me and I really can't find anything that suits me. Could you help me find someone who can help me?" he asked, and then stuck his hand out "My name is Jack Lantern." he told her, smiling brightly. He knew exactly where she was judging from the vibrations she'd last put out when she'd moved and from the sound of her voice.
He knew that eventually, she'd figure out he was blind, but he wanted to see how long he could keep her in the dark (figuratively speaking) about it. It was a little game of his he played with vampires, to see if they could tell if he was blind. The longest he'd gone in his game was two entire days and he figured that was only because that vampire didn't seem smart enough to string two sentences together without drooling.
This girl seemed highly intelligent. This was going to be interesting.
