A rather short fifteen year old boy sat on the middle of the floor in an unused classroom, a cauldron in front of him. It bubbled and a pale lilac colored smoke rose up from its depths. Genis Sage smiled proudly, his face alight with joy, his blue-green eyes bright and round. It looked alright, at least .....it looked the way he thought that it ought to look. He needed a test subject and with a small sigh, he picked up a little frog from a box next to him.
"Sorry Mr Frog." He said softly, "But if this works then .....well ....you'll be helping a lot of people out." Guilt shone on his face for a moment before he took an eyedropper, filled it with potion and then, dropped some of it into the frog's mouth when it croaked at him. Genis then took out a jar of live flies from his bag and then frog gave a great leap, hitting the glass so sharply, it knocked it over. The creature flicked its tongue in and out, slapping it against the jar.
Smiling, Genis snatched up the frog, opened the jar, put it inside and sealed it again. He watched happily as the creature hopped around and around the bottom of the big jar, eating each fly it came across. Finally, the little frog was so bloated and full, it was lying on its stomach, legs unable to touch the bottom of the jar anymore. Laughing, the little Ravenclaw reached into the jar, and carefully pulled the frog out.
"A hundred flies." He muttered, "You're alive, but you don't look all that comfortable." The frog's eyes darted around, looking for something else. It had a hungry look in its eye. Frowning, Genis set the frog down as it attempted to drag itself after some spiders it saw in the corner.
He took notes, which were coded in his own special way. Only he could read his notes, and he liked it that way. He spoke to himself as he wrote, 'Subject is alive, but seems unable to stop eating. Might just eat everything it can until it explodes. Has not died like the others. Potion is improving, but still not finished.' and he dried the ink with a spell, then rolled up the parchment and put it back in his bag.
Genis crossed the room and picked up the frog, stopping it from eating the spiders it had encountered. "You're full enough already. Don't you know when to stop?" It didn't take very long, due to the size of the frog and the amount of potion it had been given, about ten minutes after the experiment had begun, the potion wore off.
The frog gave a loud croak and shuddered, seeming to be in great pain.
"Uh-oh." Genis muttered, "Stomach ache or......" he sat down with the frog to watch it and then, took out a potion to dull pain and dropped it into its mouth. A few seconds later, the frog was fine, still bloated and fat, but fine. ".......Needs a lot more tests before it's fit for human consumption." Genis said to himself, smiling at the round frog in his hands "But you get to go back to the lake! Uh.....after you've digested. If I put you back now, you'd just sink like a brick."
Suddenly, he felt like .....someone was watching him. He drew his wand and whipped around, "Who's there?!" He demanded, "And how long have you been spying on me?"
