There was nothing Sirius loved more than the autumn nights when they returned to school. He spent nearly all of his free time on the grounds when he got back, basking the great feeling to be back in his kingdom with all his friends and all its glory. It wasn’t as relieving now, now that he wasn’t escaping the Hell they called Grimmauld Place; but still, it got awfully lonely at his own place, and he grew to miss the feeling of being surrounded by people. And now he was back, for the final time, and he planned to take full advantage of that and the sweet autumn air that wafted through the hallways, so tempting that Sirius could not resist and he found himself pulled outdoors every time. If there was no fun to be had indoors, you could guarantee that he would be outside, making fun.
Of course, it was easy to lose track of time in this paradise, and it did not occur to Sirius that as all his company began to head back indoors that maybe he should, too. It’s almost as though he was blind to the darkness; he appreciated the change in nature, but it did not register as a signal to him: a sign that perhaps it was time again to head inside. And of course, by the time he did realize it, it was too late. He was not concerned of lack of sleep, or lack of time to do schoolwork; no, those thoughts did not even enter his mind. But as it occurred to him that it was well after hours and that he possessed neither James’s Invisibility Cloak or their Marauder’s Map, it became a very realistic possibility that he could get caught out of bed. Even that idea did not necessarily concern him – it would not be the first, nor would it be the last, time it happened. But it would be slightly annoying to have to deal with it, and surely it would be for the teacher or prefect that might catch him, because odds are, it wasn’t the first time for them either. Odds are, once entering the castle, he wouldn’t head to bed anyway.
Making the executive decision to at least go snag the Marauder’s Map before continuing on his adventures, Sirius turned his course to the castle. He pulled upon the large doors that acted as the primary entrance, entering the eerily dark Entrance Hall. He slipped inside, known to be quick and quiet on his feet. His hands dropped into his pockets as he made his way to the nearest stairwell, a few steps off the ground before he realized that his were not the only footsteps echoing inside the vast Entrance Hall. Sighing softly, he began, as he continued slowly up the stairs, a slow scan of the dark hall, his eyes still not adjusted to the indoor darkness.

"Miss Moore, you have prefect duties tonight." Juliet turned her attention to Ravenclaw's head of house. "You will be patrolling the entrance hall." He said firmly. Juliet nodded and headed out after checking up on all the first year girls. She looked at all the stairs that she had to climb back up once she was relieved from her prefect duties, tonight. She likes her house and all, but to climb all those stairs when she's already tired, is not fun. All Juliet really wants to do now is climb onto her bed and sleep. The train ride took a toll on her. She barely got to sleep because she was catching up with her friends. She only had at least ten minutes of shut eye on the train.
The Ravenclaw yawned as she walked down another flight of stairs. The darkness of the castle was not helping Juliet stay awake. So she took out her wand, and said, "Lumos," and the tip of her wand immediately lit up. At least this will keep her awake for a bit, and help her to not bump into anything in the dark. Why does she even have prefect duties tonight? It's everyone's first night back, and usually people are tired after eating all that delicious food that the castle provides for the students. She did miss the food that the castle served while on break, but nothing can beat her mother's cooking. Juliet walked down another flight of stairs before reaching the last flight that goes down to the entrance hall.
The girl was about to go down the stairs but she heard footsteps. A first year, lost already? Juliet thought, but then she could be wrong. It could be a professor patrolling the halls, or another prefect. She decided to leave the light on, she's not going to be in trouble, she is a prefect who is just following orders. And it could be a first year that is trying to find his or her way back to their house's portrait hole. Juliet remembered getting lost her first day at Hogwarts. She was lucky that a prefect found her and directed her back to the Ravenclaw common room.
As she continued to walk down she saw a figure at the end of the stairs, she pointed her wand towards the dark figure and saw that it was, Sirius Black. "You should be in bed, Black."

The stern voice that loomed out of the darkness suggested that whomever Sirius had run into would not be a friend to his after-hours endeavors. His eyes darted to the source of the voice; it came from the top of the staircase which he was climbing. Within seconds he was able to discern the face of prefect Juliet Moore, a younger Ravenclaw whom Sirius only because of his tendency to land himself in trouble with prefects. Obviously, the summer off from school had not done him well; he had walked right into the path of a prefect, when normally he was so stealthy and evasive. Of course, the map and cloak would have helped, and he wasn’t near any convenient secret passages, so it was mostly just a matter of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
There was always the possibility that Juliet was feeling generous on this particular night; it being the first night back at the school, perhaps she was in a giving mood or perhaps not up for doling out detentions this early. It certainly looked like she didn’t want to deal with Sirius’s antics right now; not that she ever did. He knew that she was far from his biggest fan. However, that didn’t stop him from putting on his most charming smile and continuing strolling up the stairs as if he was thrilled to see her. “It’s nice to see you again, too,” he said as if she had just greeted him fondly after a summer apart, completely ignoring the indirect order he was given. As he reached the top of his climb, he looked her squarely in the eye, placing a hand on her shoulder as if reassuringly, and said, “You can come right out and say you missed me, Juliet. There’s no need to be embarrassed about it.”
Sirius quickly shifted his way around her so that she was no longer standing between him and his destination, and he removed his hand from her shoulder. “I should be in bed,” he repeated agreeingly. “In fact, that’s where I am headed right now. You’re welcome to join me. Or not,” he added quickly, concluding that Juliet was not likely in the gaming mood. Well, he could not recall a time where she ever was in the gaming mood when it came to him. Their few interactions together were not unlike this one; Sirius was doing something wrong, and she caught him in the act. All he really knew about her was that she was not one of his many admirers, and that she was very bright, and not likely to be fooled by his giving in easily and lying about heading to bed. But Sirius Black had escaped trouble more times than can be counted, and his charm was just beginning to surface. There was much more where that came from; she was bound to let him off at some point.

Juliet really wished it was a first year that she found wandering the halls. But she just has to run into the infamous Sirius Black. Why him of all the other trouble makers of the school? Juliet sighed as she crossed her arms and watched Black walk up the stairs. Black has never been on her list of friends, nor will he ever be. She just can't see her getting along with him. He is immature, and he fools around with girls. Julie is determined to not be one of those girls who just falls for his smile. And there it is. Black is using his signature smile, just to get out of trouble. Juliet rolled her eyes at his comment. Sirius even had the nerve to walk right up to Juliet and he put a hand on her shoulder. Juliet put on her sarcastic smile and said, "I did miss seeing you in detention." Her smile faded.
Then he finally pulled his hand away from her shoulder. She turned to face Sirius so she can see where he is going. Juliet raised an eyebrow when he said that he should be in bed. Sirius would never agree with a prefect, so why should he agree this term? Juliet pointed her lit wand towards his chest so she can see if he's lying or not. The last thing he added disgusted her. "I don't believe you." Juliet retorted. He has to be lying. Even though Juliet couldn't tell by looking at his face, she was sure that he was not going to go to bed right away. Black does not abide to the rule that has been set by the headmaster of the school. He is always breaking them along with his friend James.
"One week of detention, Black." Juliet said as she motioned for him to start walking towards the Gryffindor common room. She plans on following behind him to make sure that he goes in and stays in.

Sirius mirrored the girl’s sarcastic smile as she retorted that she’d missed seeing him in detention. So apparently a summer without seeing each other had not softened her attitude towards him. He couldn’t imagine why. It’s not like he’d ever done anything specifically toward her… well, he did like to push her buttons and annoy her purposefully, once he found out he could. If you can’t win them over, might as well push them further away, right? Somehow that logic all made sense in Sirius-land. “I knew you’d warm up to me eventually,” he said cheerfully as if he couldn’t detect the evident sarcasm in her voice. Perhaps if he’d just annoyed her enough by pretending they were friends, she would just get tired of him and leave him alone. He was rather competent at having that effect on people, when he wanted to.
As he felt the wooden tip of a wand jab into his chest and a pool of light spilled onto his face, Sirius’s smile faltered just for a flash of a second before it was replaced by an amused smirk. He gently lifted a hand to her wand and pushed it slightly, just to increase the distance between them. He doubted that a sweet girl and a prefect like Juliet would use her wand against him, but he’d been on the receiving end of hexes before, and that was not a good way to start off the school year, to say the least. “What reason have I ever given you not to believe me?” he said softly and innocently. “Really, Juliet. I was heading up to Gryffindor Tower when you found me. I just lost track of time, is all. Got to get back in the swing of the school schedule, you know,” he added studiously. Part of his statement was truthful. He had intended on going straight to Gryffindor Tower – to see what it had to offer, before continuing his exploration of the castle. Though, Juliet did not need to know that.
Detentions were not new to Sirius; they did not concern him in the least. Sometimes he could even turn them into fun experiences, especially if he had James or another friend in detention with him. Perhaps he could convince someone to get in trouble as well, or he could just not show up to detentions either. It was a nasty habit of his, to be places he’s not supposed to be, or, in this case, to not be places where he should be. They were, admittedly, a bit of a nuisance: an intrusion on his Sirius time. “Aw, don’t be like that,” he said without missing a beat, his feet at a standstill as he completely disregarded Juliet’s signal for him to get moving to the tower. “I can be gone in a minute. Disappear. And no one can no this ever happened. It could be our little secret. Wouldn’t that be fun?” he said as he stepped backward out of the light of her wand. He already knew her answer, but he would at least see how long he could draw this out. After all, what else did he have to do?

Juliet glared as she saw Sirius returning her sarcastic smile. He always found a way to annoy her. That's one thing she didn't like about him. She also hates how he's playing around with the girls in this school. She never understood why he does that, and she doesn't want to know. Sirius is just another trouble maker for the prefects and professors to deal with. She is going to be so happy that he's leaving this place for good after this term. She can't wait to see him leave Hogwarts. Juliet does not want to deal with his pranks and his excuses anymore. This is her second year of being a prefect, but with Sirius at Hogwarts he made it a lot harder on her than she expected it to be. Juliet ignored Sirius' comment.
The girl saw Sirius' smile falter, did he think that she was going to hex him? No matter how much she doesn't like Black, she will never hex him. She doesn't like seeing people get hurt, yet she manages to endure watching a whole game of Quidditch. People get hit by a bludger a lot throughout the game. She always averted her eyes whenever it happened. "I just have a feeling you're not going to stay in bed." Juliet said, keeping her wand by her side. She lifts it up to her waist and treats it as a flashlight. Juliet told herself to never trust what Sirius says. Sirius is heading towards the tower, but she's not sure if he's actually going to go to bed. He might just sneak out again when he makes sure that she's gone. But then again once he leaves, she can go back to concentrating on patrolling the entrance hall. Now she isn't so sure about following Sirius back to the Gryffindor tower. He is heading in that direction. But she still has that feeling, that he isn't going to stay in bed, that he's going to come right back out when he obtained what he needed.
Juliet listened to what Sirius had to say. Little secret? He wishes. Juliet thought as she watched him step back from the light of her wand. "Fine, but I better not see you out here again. Don't forget to go to detention." Juliet said letting Black go. She wasn't too happy about that. She said turning her back to him. Juliet doesn't want to deal with him anymore. It would be nice for him to go run to his bed, and stay in there. Juliet knows that she can't concentrate on one rowdy students. There are other prefects who will deal with Sirius.

Basically, Sirius was the definition of a prefect’s worst nightmare. Sure, they had to deal with troublemakers all the time; that was what they were there for, right? Not solely to deal with a stubborn rule-breaker like Sirius Black. There was simply no way to teach him a lesson, because he frankly didn’t care. He could have all the detentions in the world and it wouldn’t affect him one bit: not once would he second-guess his morals or the choices he was making. So long as he didn’t get expelled (and he’s come close a few times), he had no limits. It helped that he could talk himself out of a lot, and he wasn’t against befriending prefects, either. So he had connections, so to speak. There really was just no way to stop him. But for some like Juliet, friendship was out of the question, because their lifestyles, their beliefs, were simply too different to ever get along. So to a guy like Sirius, that meant the best option was to, instead, annoy her as much as possible “Feelings can be deceptive, you know,” he stalled purposefully as she said she had a feeling that he wouldn’t remain in tower. “Then again, sometimes your instinct is your best guide. It’s a toss-up, really. You never really know,” he continued, hinting strongly at the possibility that she was right.
“Oh, you won’t,” Sirius assured Juliet when she said that she’d better not see him out again. “See me, that is.” He certainly wasted no time in pushing his limits, seeing how far he could go. The first night back hadn’t even passed fully yet and he’d already had a week’s worth of detentions under his belt. Now that wasn’t his way to start a year – but somehow, in Sirius logic, that meant to continue pushing. He’d gone a whole summer without stirring up trouble (okay, that was far from the truth), so it was time to get back in the swing of things. “I can’t promise you I won’t forget. My memory can be a little shaky sometimes. You know how it is.”
Sirius could probably be a lot to handle for someone on the first night back at the castle: this he understood. Of course, that didn’t mean he was going to let up at all, but he at least recognized it. Why the teachers even had prefects patrolling the halls on this night was beyond him. Most people, even the rowdiest of troublemakers, were relaxing after a long train ride and opening feast, catching up with friends and happy to be back in their dormitory beds after a long summer. There wasn’t really much trouble to be on the lookout for… except for himself, of course. And truth be told, he wasn’t even up to anything. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time – out of bed past curfew. It’s not like he was sneaking around to pull a prank or anything, not this time. “So, tell me,” Sirius said, not continuing on his journey to the Tower just yet, and instead leaning against the stairway railing, facing Juliet. “How’d you get screwed into this job tonight? Seems a over-precautionary, don’t you think?”

Looking out into the vast darkness, instead of Sirius helped her calm down a bit. She did not want to end up yelling at him to go back to the Gryffindor tower. She knows that there aren't any dorm rooms nearby, but there could be someone else wandering the halls for fun, like Sirius. She can't imagine what Hogwarts would be like if there was more than one Sirius roaming around. This school would be in chaos. She wouldn’t be able to handle more than one Sirius. James is similar to Sirius, but at least she can somewhat tolerate Potter. He was made Head Boy for a reason. She doesn’t even know why he was appointed Head Boy.
Juliet was expecting to hear his Sirius continue his trek towards the tower, but she didn’t hear anything. And she knows that he can’t apparate in the castle. No one can. Instead of hearing his footsteps echo through the halls she heard his voice behind her. Juliet knew that feelings can be deceptive, but she just knew that Sirius was not going to stay in bed for the rest of the night. And right now he’s not even heading towards the tower anymore. Does he want to annoy me more? The Ravenclaw thought as she unknowingly made a fist with her left hand. Okay calm down, a prefect shouldn’t harm a student. She told herself. She slowly released her fist and kept her hand at her side. She doesn’t want to do something she’ll regret later.
The girl continued to keep her back facing Sirius. She did not want to look at him; she just wanted the boy to leave so that she can continue with her prefect duties. She doesn’t even know why she has prefect duties tonight. It is the first night back, so why the precaution? Juliet stepped back a bit when Sirius’ face appeared in front of her. She turned her face away from his, and responded to his question, ”I’m just doing what I was told to do.” Juliet still kept her gaze from Sirius. But she turned her attention back to him. ”Why are you still here?”

Sirius had no desire to go to bed. He was still on summer schedule, and he had no intention of adjusting any time soon. A regulated sleeping schedule for school didn’t exist in his world: it never had. To be honest, he didn’t get tired all that often; if he did, it was overpowered by his own energy. Two contradicting forces, yes, but in him they coexisted; it was a rare moment when Sirius lacked energy. And certainly, the first day of school was not one of these moments. He was too excited to be back, where he felt he belonged, among people he’d gone months without seeing, for the last time. Admittedly, most of those people he hadn’t seen were not around at the time; Juliet was not exactly his first choice of a joyful reunion. But it had also been ages since he was able to irritate a prefect or authority figure of any kind, so that would have to do until boredom took over again and he had to find something else to do.
Many of the things Sirius said went ignored by Juliet. He acted as if he didn’t notice; as if he had no idea that her behavior clearly stated that she wanted nothing to do with him right now. No, he knew it full well; he just didn’t care. It didn’t get to him. If anything it was more a reason to stay, to keep talking. He was too difficult and stubborn to leave it at that and move on. The rest of the night could wait; after all, though it was technically after curfew, the night was still young in his eyes. “You’re just doing what you’re told?” Sirius repeated, as if this were an alien concept to him, which in some ways it was. “Sounds like you did something to piss off your superior, if you got landed with this job. Or they just have a sick sense of humor.”
Sirius didn’t have a real answer to her question inquiring why he was still here. To annoy her would be the truthful answer, and though he had no trouble telling the truth, she could probably figure that one out on her own. “Just trying to carry on a conversation,” Sirius said, acting offended at her blunt question. In truth, it took much more than that to really offend him, but he was good at putting on a front. “Is that so wrong?” he asked as a follow-up question, though in a more rhetorical way than anything. No matter her answer, it wasn’t likely to drive him away. No, he wasn’t bored just yet.

Why can't he just leave me alone? Juliet thought as she started going down the stairs - while trying to ignore Sirius. She did not want to deal with him right now, and in order for Sirius to stop bothering her, she decided to try not to show that she's annoyed with him. He knows how to push her buttons, and she's trying not to show that he is. Juliet knows that he already saw the hint of annoyance through her actions. So the prefect decided to act as if he's not irritating her in anyway. Hopefully he'll find that not getting a reaction from her, would bore him enough that he would go back to the Gryffindor tower.
Juliet turned around when Sirius questioned her reason for being on prefect duty for the night. "Yes, and I know that's a foreign concept for you." Juliet retorted back to Black. He never abided to anyone, probably not even his parents. All Juliet sees Sirius as, is a rebel that enjoys annoying prefects and causing trouble. It's like he likes getting the attention he gets from the professors, prefects, and girls. It seems all the girls swoon for Black, except for Juliet. She doesn't understand how those girls can ever be swayed by such an immature trouble maker. Juliet did try to like him as a friend, but her moral standards and his are so different, she just can't see eye to eye with Black.
The girl felt the cold air when she reached the bottom of the staircase. She pulled her robes tighter around her body. She knew it was going to be cold, but not this cold. "No, it isn't, but you should be in bed."Juliet replied to his question. Yeah he was definitely just trying to annoy her. Juliet thinks she's doing a good job of trying to stay calm and just trying not to show that she was annoyed with him. Maybe he'll go away this time.

Sirius frowned slightly at Juliet's lack of response. He wished for more of a reaction, but then again, that was her reaction; trying to maintain a cool and authoritative head when she really was annoyed. He knew her type. Besides, he didn't mind doing all the talking. One-sided conversations didn't bother him in the least. As Juliet began to climb back down the stairs, Sirius didn't let this blatant attempt to get rid of him phase him one bit. He leaped casually onto the hand railing and slid down it smoothly, hopping onto his feet right after he passed her so that he was now a few steps down from her. He offered a prideful smile as she accused him of not listening to his superiors. It didn't come as an insult to him. He prided himself on that fact.
"Well... the concept itself isn't really that foreign," Sirius thought aloud. "I mean, I've heard it enough. Just the whole applying it to my life thing, now, that is foreign." If you wanted Sirius to do something, telling him outright to do it was probably the least effective way to get the job done. He had a nasty habit of doing the exact opposite of what he was told. For example, just minutes ago, he had every intention of heading up to Gryffindor Tower... but as soon as he'd run into Juliet, who instructed him to go to bed, he wanted nothing more than to stick around and chat. He had really been looking for entertainment, and if that came in the form of bugging a prefect all night, well that would have to do. And if boredom took over again, she'd get off easy this time, but odds are he wouldn't go to bed. He wasn't even remotely tired. Plus, the rest of the hallways seemed barren - who else was he to talk with? He could only chat endlessly with a person whom he knew nothing about and who wanted nothing to do with him.
"Man, can you say anything else?" Sirius asked as she once again declared that he should be in bed. He would swear that that was half of their conversation thus far. "I know what I should be doing. I know where I should be. But, here I am!" he said, shrugging his arms slightly as if to say that there was nothing they could do about it. He knew exactly how to be annoying. Sometimes it came without trying, and sometimes it was completely intentional. Besides, people like Juliet needed the occasional encounter with a guy like Sirius. Blindly following the rules was a poor way of going about life, not to mention it wasn't any fun. Sometimes prefects needed a slap in the face like him to show them that they weren't so high and mighty and, yes, someone dared to go against their word. "So how was your summer?" he asked in a very friendly and casual tone that he was sure she wouldn't appreciate.

Why is he still here?! Juliet thought as she bit her lip to stop her from making a remark, or telling him to go back to bed in a snappy tone. She is trying her best to control her emotions right now. In the beginning she didn't do such a good job, but she's planning to do her best, so that he may leave her alone for the night. She had to deal with a lot of first years earlier. Now she has to deal with a very annoying Sirius Black, who never listens to anyone. Why can't he just be a good student and go to bed? It's amazing that he's related to Regulus in anyway. Reg is nothing like Sirius. They are like complete opposites of each other. Juliet only knew that they were brothers because of their surnames.
The girl rolled her eyes when she heard Sirius ask her, if she could say anything besides telling him to go to bed. She doesn't want to say anything else. She's afraid she might say something that she doesn't want Sirius to know. The girl just keeps looking out into the distance. She saw how the grass moved with the wind, and the trees swayed with the wind. It all looks so peaceful, but she definitely is not feeling peaceful right now. Her heart is thumping from the annoyance and frustration she has towards Sirius.
The Ravenclaw takes a deep breath just as Sirius asks her about her summer. His tone really threw her off. Why is he talking to her as if she was her friend? She turned to look at Sirius, with a her brows furrowed. But she decided to give him a short reply, and not even ask about his summer. She doesn't want to know what trouble he caused with Potter. She turned her attention back to the distant grass and trees before replying to his question. "It was good." Juliet said with a bored tone. Hopefully he'll go away this time. She just really wants to concentrate and see if there are any first years or strangers wandering around the castle like Sirius.
